(Collaboration interprofessionnelle)

“In keeping with CFN’s mandate to learn from international partnerships, Dr. Muscedere mobilized a group of Canadian healthcare leaders, researchers and clinicians to visit Denmark in May 2018. Their goal was to see first-hand why Denmark is widely recognized as a world leader in providing effective healthcare and practical living support to its older citizens, and to consider how Danish approaches might be translated to the Canadian context.” (Canadian Frailty Network)

"Grief and death are on everyone's mind. For most of us the scale of the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated death and collective grief is unprecedented. Combined with social distancing protocol, end-of-life issues, death care, and grief have become even more complex. Navigating these restrictions-and the sheer volume of loss-can feel overwhelming. How do you comfort a patient when their family can't be present? Are you supposed to bring up advanced directives on intake or wait until the person is facing their death? If we can't hold a traditional funeral, how do we mark someone's passing? The Virtual Funeral Collective banded together as part of a larger initiative called the Global COVID-19 Relief Coalition. The Global COVID-19 Relief Coalition is a 501c3 project of The Giving Back Fund bringing together world leading labs and organizations to provide solutions for the current COVID-19 pandemic. This White Paper contains a collection of resources and best practices from our collective to help you support your clients, patients, communities, and yourself during this stressful time." "Depression is the single most common mental illness in older adults and worsens people's day to day lives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these conditions are exacerbated because physical distancing leaves older adults without access to treatment. Our study found 14 articles that examined the effect of telehealth interventions on depression or depressive symptoms in older adults. We will do further research to find any other telehealth treatments for depression, and determine which interventions are most effective." IRSC - COVID-19 AND MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE

"The goal of this commentary is to highlight the ageism that has emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 20 international researchers in the field of ageing have contributed to this document. This commentary discusses how older people are misrepresented and undervalued in the current public discourse surrounding the pandemic. It points to issues in documenting the deaths of older adults, the lack of preparation for such a crisis in long-term care homes, how some ‘protective’ policies can be considered patronising and how the initial perception of the public was that the virus was really an older adult problem. This commentary also calls attention to important intergenerational solidarity that has occurred during this crisis to ensure support and social-inclusion of older adults, even at a distance. Our hope is that with this commentary we can contribute to the discourse on older adults during this pandemic and diminish the ageist attitudes that have circulated." (Abstract)

"This guidance is based on a rapid synthesis of published research, expert clinical opinion and the experiences of care home mangers and staff. This guidance is intended for managers and decision makers who are involved in supporting staff working in care home settings. The care home workforce is a skilled, dedicated and sometimes undervalued group, who are currently at the frontline of COVID-19. Care home workers face many of the same challenges as front line NHS staff and previously published guidance will be relevant and applicable to both (www.traumagroup.org). This includes prioritising physical health and safety, providing relevant job-specific training, giving clear and consistent communication, promoting existing coping strategies and supporting team cohesion and peer support. Care home workers also face unique and additional challenges." (COVID trauma response working Group)
